How To Join VFW

Sign up online to become a member-at-large.

As a VFW member-at-large, you'll stay connected to a network of veterans and valuable programs. You'll feel the support of other women veterans who truly understand the distinct pride of deploying as part of our U.S. military. Plus, you'll receive all kinds of services, discounts and opportunities, including access to our exclusive She Serves community.

Members-at-large do not belong to a Post, but your membership card gains you access to VFW's 7,600 Posts around the world.* And if you find a Post that you would like to call home, you can simply renew your membership through that Post.**

Signing up online is super simple – it takes just a few moments to complete your application form. You'll automatically be registered for a VFW eMembership account which gives you instant access to special promotions and discounts, the option to find other member profiles, the ability to update your membership information, and much more. Here's what you'll be asked to provide in the application:

  • Personal Information
    You’ll create an eMembership log-in and password here.

  • Preferred Mailing Address
    Remember, a FREE subscription to VFW Magazine is included in your membership.

  • Home of Record
    This is your billing address and may be the same as your Preferred Mailing Address.

  • Service Information
    Your military status, branch and qualifying experience.
  • Type of Membership
    In addition to an Annual Membership, Life Member and Installment Life Member are options. Learn more.

  • Payment Information
    You can use your Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit card.

  • Attestation of Eligibility
    Check the box to indicate that you’ve confirmed your eligibility.

Annual Membership

If you choose to renew your membership on a yearly basis, the VFW will send dues payment reminders to you via both mail and email, starting six months prior to the end of your membership year.

The VFW membership year runs from January 1 to December 31. If you sign up between January 1 and June 30, your first year's membership will be good through December of that year; if you sign up July 1 or later, your first year's membership will be valid through December 31 of the following year. (Example: Sign up May 1, 2011 and your membership will be good through December 2011; sign up August 1, 2011 and your membership will be good through December 2012.)

*A member-at-large cannot participate in Post elections.
