“We need more female veterans to join the VFW so we can continue fighting for not only our own benefits, but for the veterans who need our help.”

VFW Member since: 2006
Residence: Maryland
Occupation: Auditor at the Perry Point VA Medical Center
Age: 53

My experience with the VFW has been so rewarding. I really enjoy working with youth and visiting with veterans in the hospitals. I have always been active in my community – from volunteering with AARP preparing tax returns to registering people to vote. The VFW has given me the opportunity to channel this energy into helping veterans. It feels so good knowing that I can help them get away from the hospital to enjoy time with their families. We need more active female VFW members so we can continue fighting for not only our own benefits, but for all veterans who need our help.

More about me:
I am married with two surviving children. My 13-year-old son died in 1994. My daughters are 23 and 22. My family enjoys traveling together. I am a life member of the VFW and I also belong to the Ladies Auxiliary and the Military Order of the Cootie. I am the senior vice commander of the United Female Veterans Chapter #1 in Maryland. I used the G.I. Bill to earn my bachelors degree from the University of Maryland, where I am currently working on my master’s degree.

Accomplishments:
I am presently the post quartermaster and the district adjutant. I have been the district loyalty day chairman and the youth program chairman at my post for the past two years. I am also a notary public for the state of Maryland.
